If you go out this way, cute town of Hood River sometimes allows you to see marvelous kiteboarding. Also consider going for a soak in a big clawfoot bathtub and a wrap at the quirky Carson Hot Springs. It's a steal at around $26. BUT definitely not upscale.

One of the most photographed trees in the world is one of their Japanese maples. You want to go on a tour if you can. It's about sound, pace, etc.
